El Cau Brunet 1916

Next to the Conreria road and right at the point where the municipality of Sant Fost de Campsentelles ends, there is a very unusual and emblematic building that has housed a well-known restaurant for many years: El Cau.

This tower or building was built and inaugurated in 1916, and its promoter was the painter Llorenç Brunet, who, inspired in some ways by El Cau Ferrat in Sitges, created a much more modest version: The Cau BrunetShortly after the Civil War, El Cau would become a restaurant that is still operating today.

Biography of Llorenç Brunet

Llorenç Brunet i Forroll, born in Badalona on September 14, 1873, stood out as a draftsman and watercolorist, training at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. During his military service in Madrid, he continued his artistic passion, excelling in watercolors and drawings such as andLa marcha del quintoand y andMi capitánand.

Brunet was a great lover of collecting Catalan works of art and antiques, with which he created a small museum in El Cau de la Conreria, which was built on his initiative in 1916. His museum became a cultural and tourist meeting point in the region.

The Blasco family and the El Cau restaurant

In 1940, shortly after the end of the Civil War, he arrived in La Conreria Luciano Blasco Martín, who had lived in Tiana since the 1920s, where his children Joan and Montserrat were born.

Before the war he had already been in La Conreria, since he worked as a waiter in Mas Corts, where he met his wife. Luciano was hired as a security guard for the Colonia-Bosque de la Conreria, where he lived with his family.

After winning the lottery in 1943, he bought El Cau and began building the restaurant. Luciano died at the age of 72, leaving an important legacy in the region of Badalona.
